Process Overview

Classification of treatment processes

Treatment technologies can primarily be classified according to their mechanism of action (oxidative, adsorptive, or physical). A further classification is based on the operating medium employed and the mode of application.

The operating principles and possible application configurations of the individual treatment technologies for use in wastewater treatment plants are described separately in the following sections.

State of Implementation

Several wastewater treatment plants in Germany and Switzerland have now been equipped with an additional treatment stage specifically designed for the removal of micropollutants.

The following links provide an overview of the current implementation status.
